Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup natural cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 large egg plus 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Combine the dry ingredients: Mix flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until combined. Set aside.
- Mix the butter and sugars: Add the butter and both sugars to a large bowl. Mix with a fork, whisk or stand mixer until just combined.
- Add the eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture and continue to mix until fully combined.
- Add the dry ingredients: Add flour mixture to the butter mixture. Use a rubber spatula to fold the mixture until a smooth dough forms. If you are using a stand mixer, mix on low speed until just combined.
- Add the chocolate chips: Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Dump in the chocolate chips and mix the dough until the chocolate chips are evenly distributed.
- Scoop and chill the dough: Scoop and roll the dough into approximately 1-tablespoon balls and place them on a large plate. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the fridge to chill for at least 1 hour.
- Bake the cookies: Place the cookies on the baking sheet at least 4 inches. Bake for 12 minutes in a preheated 350° F oven.
- Cool before serving: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
